重い青灰色の金属。

軽率な愛好家、
とりわけ賢明ならぬ愛、
すなわち他人の妻への愛を抱く者に、
安定性を与えるのに大いに用いられる。

また、議論の秤を間違った方向に
傾けてしまうほどの重みを持つ主張に対して、
釣り合いを取る役割も果たす。

国際論争の化学において興味深い事実は、

鉛が大量に沈殿することだ。

鉛は、比重の重さから、
軽薄な人間や、不倫の愛を
「安定させる」のに使われる。
つまり、銃弾の材料として、
愛の争い、国際紛争といった
あらゆる議論を決着させる
普遍的な審判者だと言い切る。

銃声が蜂のように聞こえると、
人はム―レンバーグのように
一目散に逃げ出す。
ここでいうム―レンバーグは、
独立戦争時の人物で、
戦闘で撤退したことで知られる。
鉛は、誰もが恐れる暴力を
象徴している。

死んだ者は悪魔のジャックによって
新しい弾丸に作り替えられる。
永遠に続く争いの皮肉な構図だ。

A heavy blue-gray metal much used in giving stability to light lovers—particularly to those who love not wisely but other men's wives. Lead is also of great service as a counterpoise to an argument of such weight that it turns the scale of debate the wrong way.
