舌の軽い者との論争―― それは老若の間で繰り返される血なき戦争だ。 敵を挑むときには、 その怒りを自分に向けさせよ。 地に縛られた蛇のごとく、 自らの毒牙で己を刺すように。 その秘法を問うか？ 敵の意見を一つずつ採用し、 それを嘲りながら返せ。 怒りに任せ、彼は自らの論を 容赦なく打ち捨てる。 あとは静かに、自分の言いたいことを提示すればいい。 『あなたがうまく言ったように』 『あなたの賢明なお言葉どおり』 『ちなみに、あなたの議論に流れているこの見方は…』 そう前置きしながら。 あとは任せておけ―― 彼は必ずその役目を果たし、 お前の主張を立派で正しいものとして証明してくれるのだ。 ―― コンモア・エイペル・ブルーン
