贖罪

罪人が、自らの罪の対象である神を殺すことで
その罰から救われること。

この教義は宗教の根本的な神秘であり、
信じる者は滅びることなく、永遠の命を得る。

そして、人はそれを理解しようとし続ける。

ただし、ビアスの定義は、
神を殺すことで罪が許されるという、
正統な教義をねじ曲げたブラックユーモア。
原文にある「神を殺す」という皮肉は、
イエス・キリストの死を指す教義を
極端に倒錯させた表現と読むべきだ。
西洋における宗教の権威と、
それに盲信する人々への痛烈な風刺。
ゴルゴ・ブローネの詩が示すように、
「罪人を磔にする」という方法は、
当時の救済に対する諦念を象徴している。
救済の難しさと、人間の業の深さを笑う。
