手段という皮肉だ。

この定義には、
当時のアメリカ社会、
特に知識層が、
洗練されていない
俗語や流行語を
軽蔑していた感情が反映されている。

ビアスが「ヒト豚」
（Pignoramus intolerabilis）
という造語を使っているのは、
他人の言葉を真似るだけで
思考力のない人間に対する
強烈な批判と見なす。

当時の文化的な
ヒエラルキーにおいて、
教養のない者の言葉を
痛烈に嘲笑しているのだ。
