ある日、ひとりの道化者が—このろくでなしが何を企んでいたのか？— 暗号RATの文字をひとつ入れ替え、それが神の名だと告げた！するとたちまち、とんでもない司祭と志願者たちが（見世物、神秘、道化、賛美歌、そして四肢が麻痺するようなひどい議論を伴って）立ち上がった。彼らはその神殿に仕え、火を絶やさず、教義を説き、裏で糸を操った。驚いた民衆は、儀式に参列し、理解できないものは何でも信じた。そして、二本の半分の毛が、このように結合されると（技芸によって可能になるように）、自然のままの、裂かれたことのない毛よりも、より甘美な価値と、よりふさわしい優雅さを持つことを学び、内心深く悟りを開かれた。彼らは犠牲の饗宴のためにご馳走とワインを持ち寄り、司祭たちを養うために自分たちの衣服を売るのである。
