誤った発音が招いた悲劇だ。
「スカラベ」（SCARABEE）と
ダンスの「サラバンド」（Saraband）という
言葉のわずかな違いが、
主人公の命を奪う原因となった。
異国で愛する女性に、
自分の知識を理解させようとして、
滑稽な間違いを犯し、
それが取り返しのつかない
結果につながるという、
皮肉に満ちた物語である。
