その後、社会的功績のある市民となり、
今やただの笑いものだ。

落ちぶれた地位の象徴として、
もはや犬にまで爵位を与えるしかない。
それは滑稽な「騎士号ブーム」が
行き着く末の姿を風刺している。
形骸化した貴族制度と名誉のインフレを
皮肉った表現だ。
