当時の医学生の解剖学実習には、
死体が不可欠だった。
しかし、合法的に手に入る遺体は
ごくわずか。
そのため、墓を暴き、
遺体を医学校に秘密裏に
売って稼ぐ者が横行した。
彼らは「墓泥棒」、
すなわち「ハイエナ」と呼ばれた。
法外な授業料を払う医学生を
裏で支えていたのが、
この非合法な死体供給ビジネスだ。
