かつてイスパハンの地に男がいた。 遥か遥か昔の話だ。 そして彼には、骨相学者が言うところの、 見世物にするにふさわしい頭があった。 彼の謙虚さの瘤は、あまりにも大きな塊だったので （彼らは言う、自然が気まぐれを起こしたのだ）、 その頂上は、彼の髪の木立を遥かに越え、 まるで山の峰のようにそびえていた。 イスパハンじゅうで、これほど謙虚な男は いないと、彼らは何度も何度も誓った。 これほど卑屈で大人しい者を、あなたは むなしく探すだろう。かつて誰も見つけられなかった。 やがて、その恐ろしい瘤のふくらみは、 天にも届くほどに高くなり、 人々はその男を「ミナレットを持つ男」と呼んだ。 イスパハンじゅうで、自分の頭のてっぺんを、 彼ほど誇り高く、声高に称賛する男はいなかった。 飽くことのない舌と、図太い肺で、 彼はその美しい瘤を自慢し続けた。 ついにシャー（王）は激怒し、信頼できる従者を送った。 袋と弓の弦も携えて。 そしてその優しい子供は微笑みながら説明した。 「あなたへのささやかな贈り物です。」 イスパハンじゅうで最も悲しい男は、 その贈り物に鼻を鳴らしたが、それを受け入れた。 「もし私が生きていたら」と彼は言った、 「私の謙虚さが、私に不滅の名声を与えていただろう！」 ―― サカー・ウッフロ

There wasn't a man in all Ispahan Prouder, or louder in praise of his chump: With a tireless tongue and a brazen lung He bragged of that beautiful bump Till the Shah in a rage sent a trusty page Bearing a sack and a bow-string too, And that gentle child explained as he smiled: A little present for you.
